Crying is the only way a baby has to communicate his needs. He isn’t trying to get back at you or trying to make you angry. If your baby cries, think about what he’s trying to say:
o Does his diaper need changing?
o Is it time for a feeding?
o Is he not feeling well?
o Is he too cold or too hot?
o Does he just need to be held and rocked?
Sometimes, nothing seems to work. That does NOT mean you’re not a good parent. Before you lose your cool, take a break. Put the baby in a crib or playpen, shut the door, and take a break for a few minutes. Call a friend or relative to relieve your stress.
NEVER SHAKE A BABY!
If you need help, call 1-800-4-A-CHILD.
